The Bachelor of Science Program in Mathematics is a 240 ECTS program and is to be completed in 8 regular semesters. The program is designed to train students in the theory of mathematics and to develop mathematical skills and mastery, used in the modern applications of mathematics in science and engineering.

The Bachelor of Science Program in Mathematics is a 240 ECTS program and is to be completed in 8 regular semesters. The program is designed to train students in the theory of mathematics and to develop mathematical skills and mastery, used in the modern applications of mathematics in science and engineering. Through specialized courses as part of mathematics elective and technical elective requirements, students will have the opportunity to deepen and broaden their mathematical foundations and skills, which will make them more competitive in the mathematics-related job market and/or will prepare them for graduate studies in the area of pure and applied mathematics or statistics. Flexibility in selecting non-mathematics electives will also allow students to complete a minor in a different discipline.

English Language Requirements

IELTS – no less than 6.5 overall (with at least 6.0 in each sub-score) or TOEFL IBT – 79-93 (Reading – no less than 13, Listening – no less than 12, Speaking – no less than 18, Writing – no less than 21) or TOEFL PBT** – 574-599

Academic Requirements

– Minimum requirements for graduates or students of the final year of secondary school, colleges, UK Foundation program and graduates of the A-level program

SAT Reasoning Test ** or ACT SAT Reasoning Test – 1240 Essay is not required, no minimum score OR ACT – 27 composite score. Writing part is not required, no minimum score

SAT Subject Test – 600 for each subject (Biology and Chemistry or Physics and Math)

– Minimum requirements for graduates and holders of NIS Grade 12 Certificate*

NIS 12 Grade Certificate – A B B (any subjects)

– Minimum requirements for graduates and holders of IВ Diploma Program***

IB DP 30 total score and 4, 4, 5 for 3 subjects of HL

*NIS Grade 12 Certificate holders can also participate in the competition in the “Graduates of secondary schools” category with IELTS and SAT results (see the minimum requirements for this category above).

** The Nazarbayev University applies the Superscoring for SAT scores.

***IB DP holders can also participate in the competition in the “Graduates of secondary schools” category with IELTS and SAT results (see the minimum requirements for this category above).

Work after graduation

Many of the graduates have been admitted to various postgraduate study programs in world class universities in the United States and Europe, and other parts of the world, in Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Statistics and Bio-Medical Statistics, and Pure Mathematics. A partial list includes Stanford University, Oxford University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Delft University of Technology, University of Manchester, and McMaster University, University of Chicago.

    • 2 writing courses
    • 2 Kazakh Language courses
    • 1 Ethics course
    • HST 100 History of Kazakhstan
    • MATH 350 Research Methods
    • 1 Social Science course (SOC, PLS, ANT, ECON)
    • 1 Natural Science course (PHYS, CHEM, BIOL, GEOL), 8 ECTS credits
    • MATH 161 Calculus I
    • Any CS or programming course (8 credits)
    • Business Fundamentals and Entrepreneurship
  3. Technical Electives, at least 18 ECTS:
    • Any BIOL, CHEM, ECON, PHYS, SEDS, SMG course. (At least one course must be 300-level or above.)
