I am an Assistant Professor of Economics at Nazarbayev University and serve as the Placement Director. I am also affiliated with the Center for Demography and Ecology, University of Wisconsin.

I joined the Nazarbayev University in 2015 after earning my Ph.D. degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the supervision of John Kennan. During my doctorate degree, I was awarded with a pre-doctoral fellowship by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) for my work titled as “Labor Force Attachment Beyond Normal Retirement Age.”

I completed my undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Economics (double major) with top ranking, and Master’s Degree in Economics with a fellowship awarded by TUBITAK, The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey, at Koc University, Istanbul.

My research interests are in the areas of Labor Economics, Public Economics, Applied Microeconomics and Econometrics. My current research projects focus on labor supply decisions of elderly people, correction of generalized attrition bias in panel data sets having a short panel component, correction of selectivity bias in models of double selection, bankruptcy behavior of individuals, informal competition, the interaction between trade credit and firm bankruptcy, the effects of child mortality on fertility decisions in Indonesia, and the effects of early childhood interventions on educational and labor market outcomes.
