Dinara Pisareva joined the Department of Political Science and International Relations in 2022. She received her PhD in 2021 at the Australian National University. Dinara is mostly a comparative politics researcher, but her research agenda often depends on what looks interesting at the moment.
Past projects:
– democratic protests and political culture in the post-Soviet region:
Pisareva, D. (2023). Do People Protest for Democracy? Investigating the Democratic Theory of Protest Participation in Armenia’s Velvet Revolution of 2018. Demokratizatsiya: The Journal of Post-Soviet Democratization 31(3), 285-308.
– authoritarian response to protests:
– public attitude to democracy in Kazakhstan:
At the moment, Dinara is developing her skills in experimental research design and quantitative data analysis. Together with her graduate students, Nurmakhan Tastaibek and Maia Talipova, she is working on an experiment to understand how Kazakhstani people interpret Qandy Qantar and whether they support governmental or anti-governmental narratives of the event.
