Meiramgul Kussainova is an associate professor at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. She is a graduate of the Karaganda State University named after Evnei Buketov.  She received a master’s degree in philology from the International University of Suleiman Demirel. The theme of her master’s thesis: “The image of Kenesary Kasymov in the historical songs of the Kazakhs.” She received her doctoral degree in history from the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay. The theme of her doctoral dissertation was: “Socio-political life of the Kazakh society in the first half of the XIX century in the materials of the Kazakh oral historical tradition”. Dr Kussainova had also obtained her PhD in the “Kazakh language and literature” department at the Suleyman Demirel University. The theme of her dissertation was “Liberating idea in the historical songs of the Kazakhs”. She is the author of several books, articles published in peer-reviewed journals. She is also the author of textbooks on the history of Kazakhstan for 12-year schools in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Dr Kussainova supervised the scientific projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, international programs, the scientific project of the Nazarbayev University. She leads master’s theses on the program “Eurasian Studies”. Dr Kussainova’s field of educational interests include teaching history of Kazakhstan on the basis of an analysis of historical sources in the context of critical reflection on the main periods of the historical past of Kazakhstan, the transformation of the Kazakh cultural traditions in the framework of modernization and globalization, as well as the development of new teaching material, the quality of education and the assessment of students’ knowledge. She taught at the Karaganda State University, Kazakh National Pedagogical University after Abay, the International University of Suleiman Demirel, and Kazakh-British Technical University. The scientific interests include the oral historical tradition of the Kazakhs, historical and literary comparative analysis of the epic tradition of the Turkic peoples, historical songs and legends of Kazakhs, the history of Kazakh music, the history of the Kazakh elite in the context of the Russian colonial policy in the Steppe. Her awards are: “The best teacher of the university of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2009); “Excellence in Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2000); “Letter of thanks from the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2015); “Letter of thanks from President Nazarbayev University” (2016).
