She has got her PhD degree from the University of Manchester in sociology in 2000. Fields of her interest include demographic sociology, especially the theories and practices of motherhood and parenthood on the whole, reproductive technologies, gender attitudes, fertility, voluntary and involuntary childlessness, reproductive decision making process, reproductive choice, reproductive health, beauty and body positive attitudes, health sociology, women participation in governments and in “male” professions. She teaches a popular course of gender sociology in Higher School of Economics, she is intensely present in media on all these topics in Novaya gazeta, Postnauka etc.
