We are delighted to announce the release of a new book, Russia’s Social Gospel: The Orthodox Pastoral Movement in Famine, War, and Revolution, published by the University of Wisconsin Press this past June written by Associate Professor Daniel Scarborough.

This book tells the story of the late Russian Empire and how it experienced rapid economic change, social upheaval and numerous humanitarian crises, and how “pastoral activity” increased as parish clergymen led and organized the reaction of the empire’s Orthodox Christians to these difficult events. Daniel Scarborough examines in his book the role of pastors in the last decades of the collapse of the tsarist empire and the explosive revolutions of 1917.

To find out more about the book, the NU Library & NU SSH Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies are glad to invite you to a book presentation on Friday, September 2, 2022. More information about the event: https://nu-kz.libcal.com/event/3908617?hs=a
