On the 10th of March 2017, the NU community had a unique, live opportunity to listen to and ask questions  with the philosopher, Onora O’Neill, who gave a talk on “Trust” exclusively to Nazarbayev University students.

Baroness O’Neill is one of the most eminent philosophers in Europe. She is Emeritus Professor at the University of Cambridge and a member of the House of Lords in the UK and, as such, has a unique perspective on the application of philosophical theory to real world concerns.

Baroness O’Neill had first given her talk on “Trust” at a TED conference in June 2013. The video can be found at this link (https://www.ted.com/talks/onora_o_neill_what_we_don_t_understand_about_trust#t-20623).

As the TED Talk quotes: “Trust is on the decline, and we need to rebuild it. That’s a commonly heard suggestion for making a better world … but, says philosopher Onora O’Neill, we don’t really understand what we’re suggesting. She flips the question, showing us that our three most common ideas about trust are actually misdirected”…

The talk was a success among the whole Nazarbayev University community! We would like to thank the History, Philosophy and Religious Studies department’s Associate Professor, Siegfried Van Duffel, for his enormous contribution in arranging this.
