On May 27th, 2017, SHSS released its 3rd cohort of graduates. Nothing could spoil the spirit and mood of the soon-to-be professionals on that rainy and gloomy day. The ceremony started with Nazarbayev University’s (NU) President – Shigeo Katsu’s speech, who, being proud of the accomplishments of the entire NU community, encouraged the students to think and analyze critically in difficult times. His advice was, “remember, you always have the support of your family and friends!”

The afternoon session consisted of the state President’s – Nursultan Abishevich – visit to NU to award PhD diploma holders and give a farewell speech to the young and ambitious graduates on how “the ones who receive education once in their life time do not win, but those who are constantly learning.”

The ceremony finished with a reception where SHSS graduates had an opportunity to listen to the Dean’s and Vice-Dean’s speech, as well as farewell words from the Eurasian Studies Program Director Dr. Alexander Morrison, who is leaving the School to pursue his career further at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.

This year there are 22 Master of Arts and 122 Bachelor degrees diploma-holders. 23 graduates (both BA and MA) received red diplomas due to their high GPAs. The School is also proudly sending some of its brightest students, such as Meiirzhan Baitas and Inkar Aitkuzhina to Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Lee Kuan Yew respectively.
