Research Interest
Hoelker’s research interests have been published in more than 38 peer-reviewed journals and teacher publications in more than 13 countries on topics such as motivation, English as an international language, writing and creating materials, communities of practice, vocabulary acquisition, and life coaching in the classroom and for professionals. Her latest innovation is providing Guest Lectures in content courses on Coaching Scholars (coaching practices and techniques for successful university students) and the Meyer Briggs Type Indicator in the Classroom.
Her most recent article on the impact of single-sex and mixed-sex classrooms on student success appeared in the prestigious 14-volumn Wiley Encyclopedia of English Language Teaching, published in 2018.
Jane Hoelker has taught in the U.S., China, Rwanda, Mali, Japan, Korea, the U.A.E., Qatar and India where she was an English Language Fellow with the U.S. State Department. She has also facilitated training with the U.S. State Department Specialist Program in Egypt, Oman and Bahrain. Jane believes in exchanging successful techniques and teaching approaches among colleagues at conferences and in teacher publications and has presented at many international conferences and published internationally. She has presented annually at the TESOL International Association Convention since 1992.
She is a former TESOL International Association Board of Directors Member and former President of TESOL Arabia. Hoelker was a Guest Speaker at the 2018 SETRA Convention (China International Teaching and Research Convention) in Beijing, China (2019) Nanjing, China (2018).
She has a Master degree in ESOL from the School for International Training in Vermont in the U.S. where she learned to focus on the dynamic of experiential learning in the classroom where students are active, supported by reflective, responsive teaching. She also earned a Master degree in French literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, she has earned 30 credits towards a Master degree in English literature from Western New Mexico University.
